Fabulous Friday: Edible Spoons? I’m In!

August 15, 2014

Hors d’oeuvres, when plated just right and bursting with lots of flavor, can make a small gathering into a swanky party.

I recently attended an event where I was able to try a delicious and innovative hors d’oeuvre – the sesame-seared tuna on edible curry spoon with avocado, drizzled with wasabi aoli and topped with micro greens.

Kicking Off Miami Spice at Zuma

August 13, 2014

Just the same as people wait anxiously for Christmas every year, foodies in Miami wait for Miami Spice

Miami Spice is a two-month culinary celebration of the best of the best restaurants in Miami.

To kick off this year’s Spice, I went to the very exclusive, very high-class Zuma for dinner at the EPIC Hotel.

That One Time I Got Foie Gras-Wasted in Paris

July 28, 2014

IMG_8266I’m not going to lie- when I travel, I usually like to eat my way through the city I’m visiting. I’m a firm believer that the culture and lifestyle of a destination is enhanced by the local dishes and flavors.

For my summer vacation this year, I went to visit one of my best friends in France. She’s working on her master’s degree in Paris and I also missed her very much, so I decided to spend some days with her. Continue Reading…

Too Legit To Quit!

November 5, 2013

Hi, everyone!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted but I’ve got some exciting news- I’m officially a .com!

I bought the domain AFabulousFoodie.com a few weeks ago but I’m just now getting to share the news. From now on, this blog will be “A Fabulous Foodie” instead of the previous name, “The Fabulous Foodie”. Hip hip hooray!

Moving forward, I have loads of fun ideas and posts for the near future. Among these, I’d like to include some delicious holiday recipes, tips and tricks and some local foodie hotspots I’ve been wanting to feature for a while now.

So, stay tuned, ladies and gents!

Love,
Mari

Aloha!

September 19, 2013

I had the best vacation this summer. I hit the beach, drank Mai Tais and went sightseeing at some amazing places. Of course, I’m talking about the one and only Hawaii!

Apart from being excited to finally work on my tan and ignore my email for a while (which is a vacation within itself!), I was stoked to try new flavors and dishes in the Aloha state.

Early on in my trip, I tried the iconic Hawaiian poke – a dish normally made with fresh, Ahi tuna, scallions, cilantro, onions, soy sauce, sesame oil and a little chili pepper for a kick. Poke actually means “to slice or cut” in Hawaiian and this dish is reminiscent of an insanely fresh ceviche.

This Restaurant Knows Exactly What It’s Doing

July 16, 2013

Yes, I am a foodie. But I am also in the PR world where social media and marketing are key. So, naturally, when I saw this video about a New York City restaurant capitalizing on the marketing prowess of Instagram, my interest piqued.

Cómodo, a Latin restaurant in Manhattan, is intriguing foodies diners everywhere with what they’re calling “The Instagram Menu.” It’s genius, really. Nestled at the bottom of the restaurant’s menu are the words “#ComodoMenu on Instagram.” Guests are encouraged to take pictures of their food and post them on Instagram with the hashtag #ComodoMenu. The idea is that guests who can’t decide what to eat, or simply want to browse through a more visual menu, will search #ComodoMenu and filter (see what I did there?) through the dining options that their fellow diners have so nicely uploaded for them.
