I'm a sucker for a good piece of cake.
I recently visited Icebox Cafe in Miami Beach with a couple of friends and we basically just wanted to stay there forever. Not only was the restaurant beautiful but the food was also amazing.
We ordered the Icebox Sampler, a plate that brought three half-portions of cake. After about twenty minutes deciding and another ten picking the waitresses' mind about which cakes were the best, we went with the red velvet cake (#classic), deep dish key lime pie and the dulce de leche cake. Now that I think about it, this cake flavor combination was the perfect mix of Southern cooking mixed with Latin flare... Love!
Now, the half portions were actually pretty large but we didn't mind. I paired my cake with
a tall glass of milk a fruity cup of rooibos tea with lemon (YUM!).
When the plate with cakes was brought out to us, it read "Enjoy" in chocolate sauce. We thought it would be funny to add an extra "ed" at the end of the word. You know, because the crumbs weren't enough to show how much we really enjoyed this cake.
Apart from the sweet treats that are Icebox Cafe cakes, the decor of this restaurant is totally beautiful. It's almost as if you were in a beach house, except not tacky at all.
It's a perfect mix of rustic and sharp. Light blue glasses adorned the tables and the light fixtures matched the color scheme. The seating was comfy and relaxed. Behind the bar, there was an enormous chalkboard that read "Shake it, stir it, sip it. Enjoy" in white chalk. It almost looked like it was a piece of typography art since the handwriting was so clean and neat.
We left that afternoon feeling content and giddy. The cake absolutely put is in a great mood but the location of the restaurant, right on Purdy Avenue, made us even happier. This neighborhood is a perfect mix of beach chic with city living. Definitely one of my favorites in town.
